15 Christmas Movies To Get You In A Holiday Spirit!


  • Home Alone

We’re starting off strong, with a Christmas classic! This movie was released in 1990, and is a flawless comedy movie for everyone! The main character, an 8-year-old boy named Kevin was known among his family members for his mischievous, snarky attitude. The night before his family leaves for Paris, they tell Kevin to sleep in the attic, to prevent him from causing trouble with his cousins. The next day, they accidentally leave for the airport without realizing Kevin isn't there. Kevin wakes up and finds that he’s all alone. After a day or two of bubbling elatement, he starts to miss his family. In the wake of all this, however, come two burglars, with Kevin’s house as a target. When Kevin picks up on their attempts to break in, it’s up to him to use his clever wits and save his house and belongings. Will he be able to do it? Does he ever reunite with his family? You’ll have to watch it to find out! This film is full of laughs and is the perfect 10/10 Christmas movie! The sequel, Home Alone 2, is definitely worth the watch as well.


  • How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Most of us know the tale of the Grinch, his dog Max, and his companion Cindy Lou Who. However, if you don’t, that's what we’re here for! The are several versions of this film: the original animated version from 1966, the live-action version from 2000, and the newly animated version from 2018. All three movies are a wonderful rendition of the original story by Dr. Suess! The story follows the Grinch, a large green creature, as he plans to “steal” Christmas. The Grinch was one of a kind and always felt like a reject among the citizens of Whoville, a village of happy people called “whos”. This led to his bitter and cruel personality and his loathing for anything cheery. He lived upon a blizzardous mountaintop, with his dog Max, where he plotted ways to ruin the lives of whos. One day, he makes a malicious plan to ruin Christmas for all of Whoville…Joined by his dog, he takes out his plan but comes to a stop when he meets a small girl named Cindy Lou Who. With her help, the Grinch learns how to love and care for other people. This is an incredible, funny, and heartwarming movie and is a must-watch for all people of all ages!


  • Elf

This film follows the story of Buddy, an aspiring elf in modern days. He was mistakenly transported to the North Pole as a kid and grew up as an elf-in-training. Now as a grown elf, he still has a nagging feeling that he will never fit in. So, he leaves for New York in search of his real father. He soon finds him, and as it turns out, his dad is a big businessman, who can be a bit cynical at times. With him on one side, and Buddy in his elf clothes on the other, the Christmas movie makes for an outstanding comedy movie! You’ll be laughing so hard that your crying before you know it. It’s a great family movie as well. We definitely recommend watching it this season!


  • Polar Express

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go to the North Pole? Well in this animated movie, a young boy does just that. On the day of Christmas Eve, after questioning the existence of Santa, a boy goes outside to find a train right outside his house. To his surprise, the conductor invited him aboard the Polar Express. Along the way, he makes friends and learns about the strength of faith, friendship, and the spirit of Christmas. This movie is better for younger kids and holds many heartwarming lessons inside the plot. If you want to know more about his amazing journey on the train, you should undoubtedly watch it!


  • A Christmas Carol

The story in this film is based on the novel by Charles Dickenson. While there are quite a few versions of this movie, they all follow the same plotline. Christmas is approaching in London, but for miserable old Scrooge, it's all ridiculous humbug. Later, he finds that three ghosts, or spirits have visited his house. They’re the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. They take Scrooge through a series of journeys through time. He learns to appreciate life and enjoy the love and warmth of Christmas, changing his bitter heart. This movie is a fabulous eye-opening tale, and perfect for families. It’s a splendid movie about the magic of the holiday and all that comes with it!


  • Christmas Inheritance

This 2017 Canadian Christmas Comedy is filled with romantic cliches with the most basic storyline. But what makes it exciting is the comfort and the holiday spirit you get when watching the main character (Ellen Langford) find herself. Ellen is the generic daddy’s girl, a spoiled New York City Heiress to one of the biggest companies in the world owned by her father, Toys for Tots. Due to her recklessness, her father sent her to a small New England town with limited resources to test if she was capable to take over the company. When she becomes stranded due to unforeseen circumstances, her interactions with the locals offer her a fresh perspective on life and her privilege while also sparking a romance with the innkeeper. But wait. What about her fiance back home?


  • The Christmas Chronicles

This feel-good movie follows two siblings, Kate and Teddy Pierce, as they create an intricate plan to kidnap Santa Claus. The plan doesn’t go as planned, and instead, they find themselves teaming up with a cheery Saint Nick and his elves to save Christmas! This movie is filled with humor, suspense, and action. Will they manage to save the holiday before it’s too late? Make sure to watch this movie to find out!





  • The Nutcracker

This story is loosely based on a common fantasy story about a girl and a mouse king. It was originally a ballet, but there are plenty of renditions of this story as well, ranging from books to movies to musicals. We’ll be specifically talking about the 1993 movie. It starts in Germany, where Clara, a young girl, finds a nutcracker. On Christmas Eve, the nutcracker magically comes to life as a prince. When the clock strikes midnight, an army of mice and their King invade Clara’s house. They fight, and right before she is almost captured, they manage to slightly harm the Mouse King, who surrenders and escapes. The Nutcracker Prince then takes her to other realms called the Land of Snow and the Land of Sweets. Along the way, they meet magical creatures, such as the Sugar Plum Fairies. The main conflict involves the nefarious Mouse King, who declares war once and for all. It’s a truly immersing film, and comes with a fantastic soundtrack! It includes the classics, “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, “Nutcracker March”, and “Dance of the Flutes”. It’s an extraordinary, enchanting, winter movie that will have you at the edge of your seat! It has an excellent amount of action, and to make it all even better, the ending is a bit of a surprise! This unforgettable 10/10 movie couldn’t be more worth the watch!


  • A Christmas Prince

This is Netflix original movie released in 2017. It can be your bare Christmas romance movie at times, but the suspenseful drama-filled plot is what makes it stand out! The main character, Amber Moore, is an American journalist sent out to a foreign kingdom called Aldovia just before Christmas. There, she is accidentally mistaken for the new tutor and taken into the royal family. She becomes close with everyone, especially the crown prince, Richard. Contrary to what she heard, the prince was actually a very compassionate gentleman. After getting tangled up in some royal drama and she soon finds herself falling in love with the prince. The princess she is tutoring, Emily, figures out Amber’s real identity but makes a deal for her silence. However, it’s not enough. Soon, two of the royal family members search Amber’s room and find out her secret and send her back to America. But don’t worry, there’s still a happy ending! Richard travels to America and proposes to Amber. She says yes, and they live happily ever after. That is, until the next two movies!


  • Angels in The Snow

A touching tale of love, sorrow, and rediscovery in a family. Angels in The Snow is one of the most family-oriented Christmas movies that will teach you to have faith and believe. Though this movie is dark, people say they have come to love its reaching, tacky essence. With its huge plot twist at the end, you will be kept up trying to understand what the directors were trying to portray. But the Montogmery family will never forget their trip to the mountains, the moment that changed their entire family.


  • Holidate

This romantic comedy takes place during the holidays, starring Emma Roberts as (Sloane Benson) a fed-up woman who hates the holidays because of the criticism of her single status from her family. Sloane finds it annoying that her mother Elaine is continuously attempting to pair her up with a new man since she recently split up with her boyfriend. Things change when she meets Jackson, an Australian golfer, who is stuck spending the holidays with a woman he has no interest in. Unexpectedly their paths cross making them fake dates for the holidays so that the families will back off. But what happened when real feelings get in the way? Will Sloane be able to commit? Will it be more than just a Holidate?

  • Love Hard

A romantic comedy about the lies we tell for love. An unlucky-in-love LA girl (Nina Dobrev) falls for a rugged East Coast guy (Tag/Darren Barnet) on a dating app and decides to surprise him for the holidays—only to discover that she’s been catfished by his childhood friend (Jimmy O. Yang). They make a deal where Josh played by Jimmy o yang will help our resident La girl and set her up with Tag. But what happens when Josh and Natalie start spending more time together?   • The Knight Before Christmas

The Knight Before Christmas is just what you would expect from a family Christmas movie: it's filled with adventure and family joy. . The movie doesn't disappoint at all, especially when you consider that Vanessa Hudgen's character, Brooke, eventually came to realize (even if reluctantly) that the attractive, medieval beau, was indeed from the 14th century. A character from the past was successfully inserted into contemporary life for a family film. The archaic language and wisdom of the medieval knight were successful in conjuring humorous mishaps as he navigated the modern world with Brooke's assistance. This comforting holiday movie brings a great representation of the past and presents together.


  • Operation Christmas Drop

This is a 2020 American Christmas comedy film. This film is loosely based on the real-life U.S. Air Force Operation Christmas Drop humanitarian mission. In Washington, DC, Erica works as a congressional assistant. She is charged with looking into a US Air Force installation in Guam in order to develop an argument for closing it. To take her around the USAF base and persuade her that it should stay open, the captain of the Air Force Andrew is picked. For Christmas, the base has a custom of airlifting supplies to the uninhabited islands of Micronesia. Andrew takes Erica on a tour of the facility and its surrounding islands to show her the value of the custom and why the base shouldn't be shut down. During these occasions, Erica and Andrew's romance blossoms. Will Erica end up shutting down the operation? Watch to find out!


  • The Holiday Calendar


The Holiday Calendar is a 2018 American Christmas romantic comedy film. The plot is filled with intricate twists and turns. It starts off with a struggling photographer named Abby Sutton (Kat Graham) getting an Advent calendar from her grandfather. Although Abby is initially unimpressed, she chooses to bring it home nevertheless. The start of the calendar is December 1. With the belief that the calendar is magical, Abby starts to relate what occurs on each day to what actually occurs in reality. Meanwhile, Abby's friend Josh (Quincy Brown) has been away around the world to focus on his photography but has come back to see Abby. These two opposing forces say that their just friends but everyone says otherwise. Will the holiday spirit help them get together? How does the calendar have anything to do with this? Watch to find out!
