15 Disney Halloween Movies You Absolutely Need To Watch!

1. Girl vs. Monster


This Halloween movie is the most iconic film on Disney channel, released on October 12th of 2012. It was always a fan favorite but it got most of its recognition in the last three years due to TikTok. Gen-Z even nicknamed fall as “Girl Vs. Monster Season.” It rose to stardom due to its infamous cast and sensational soundtrack. The movie begins the day before Halloween with Skylar and her two best friends Sadie and Henry getting ready for a Halloween Bash thrown by Ryan Dean. However, she doesn't know that she is a fifth-generation monster hunter! Her parents have hidden this from her for 15 years, so when she finds out it all goes downhill. Do you want to know what happens after and jam out to all the killer songs during the movie? Then look no further than Disney+, as it has this film in its Halloween collection with the rest of the movies listed below.


2. The Nightmare Before Christmas


We all know the infamous characters Jack Skellington and Sally. This horror story is a must-watch for all ages! A classic animated Tim Burton movie, following the story of Jack, the “Pumpkin King”. After years and years of ruling in his world of Halloweentown, Jack loses interest in the usual spooky scary delights he chases after every year. When he accidentally stumbles upon Christmastown, he tries to reinvent Halloween for all, turning the holiday into a horrifying, chaotic nightmare. Along with the immersing movie plot, the soundtrack is also spectacular, featuring songs such as “This is Halloween”, and “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”. You can also watch this film in its live musical form!



3. Halloweentown


Released in 1998, this film pursues the story of a girl, Marnie, and her siblings when they follow their grandmother home and discover Halloweentown. They’re then shocked to find out that they come from a family of witches! On Marnie’s 13th birthday, she not only finds out that she is a witch, but also that her family plays an important role in keeping the supernatural world safe from evil’s harm…This movie is a great family fantasy and can be surprisingly engrossing! You’ll find yourself totally invested in the storyline. Halloweentown is a definite watch! Don’t forget to watch Halloweentown II, Return to Halloweentown, and Halloweentown High (the sequels). This film series is so good you’ll be begging for more!


4. Goosebumps


Based on the books by the “Stephen King of children's Horror and Literature”, R.L. Stine, this movie will surely give you goosebumps! When a young boy, Zach, moves to a small town from a big city, he’s sure life just took a horrible turn, until he meets his neighbor Hannah. He’s shocked to soon find out that her father is R.L. Stine, author of the best-selling Goosebumps series. Zach accidentally releases menacing monsters from her father's books. These monsters, in all shapes and sizes, doom the town in a foreboding horror nightmare. It’s up to Zach, Hannah, and R.L. Stine, to get them back where they belong and restore peace. This spine-shivering, “blockbuster” movie is full of eerie thrills, twists and turns, and will keep you on your toes! Don't miss out on the sequels, Goosebumps 2 and 3, as well, plus the several extra short films!


5. Hocus Pocus


This film is a CLASSIC! It was released in 1993, based on the novel by Kurt Vonnegut, and won many Saturn Awards. This fantasy-comedy movie follows the story of 3 witches who are discovered and released by a group of kids: Max, Dani, and Allison (plus a talking cat). As the witches wreak havoc, it’s up to them to save the town. They have to capture the witches' spell book and stop them from becoming immortal…Grab a bowl of popcorn and watch this film full of laughs and action. It’s a very family-friendly movie, and you definitely won’t want to miss it! Disney+ has also just recently released Hocus Pocus 2; don’t forget to watch it!


6. Don’t Look Under the Bed


Frances, a no-nonsense, hormone-high teenager, doesn’t believe in monsters and supernatural beings. However, after an occurrence of spooky events, Frances finds it hard to keep denying the fact that monsters may be real after all. She soon finds the Boogeyman under her bed, and when chaotic pranks start blossoming in her neighborhood, she’s framed as the culprit. She soon realizes that the Boogeyman may be something to worry about after all. This movie is a great thriller and one of our favorite Disney movies scares!




7. Under Wraps


Under Wraps is a comedy-action film, released in 1997. The story is about three 12-year-old kids who find a three-thousand-year-old mummy. While investigating the mummy, they accidentally bring him back to life. Their goal is to return him to his resting place before the clock strikes midnight on the day of Halloween, or else he will never be able to reunite with his one true love. Wonder how this story will play out! Make sure to watch it on Disney+. This movie is great for all ages and very entertaining!



8. Bedknobs and Broomsticks


Based on the novel, this film was released in 1971 as a fantasy-history movie. It takes place during the Battle of Britain, Eglantine, a witch-in-training, decides to defeat the Nazis once and for all using her powers. To do this, she gets the help of three kids that have been taken from the London Blitz. Together, they join with the head of the witchcraft school, and with the help of a flying bed, go on a journey to defeat the Nazis. This movie is perfect for any Mary Poppins and Blackbeard's Ghosts fans out there. This is the perfect mix of Halloween and fantasy, including magical feats at every turn, knights witches, and outstanding enchantments. This movie is perfect for children, and families too! This movie is full of laughs and has a stunning supernatural plot. You won’t want to miss it!


9. Coco


Disney’s original Coco is based on the Day of the Dead holiday. It follows the story of a young boy, Miguel. Miguel is very passionate about playing the guitar and aspires to be a musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. However, his family has banned all music, for reasons they won’t tell Miguel about. This film tells the tale of his misadventures as he accidentally ventures into the Land of the Dead, where he makes new friends and acquaintances. But that’s not all…Miguel unknowingly reunites with a lost relative and finds out the shocking truth about his family’s ancestry. This movie is great for all ages, being yet another wonderful Pixar Studios animated feature! It’s also a great way to celebrate our loved ones, as well as this spooky time of year.


10. Werewolf by Night


Hold on to your pants, because Marvel just realized a Halloween special! We were so excited when we saw this film, and it’s absolutely the perfect way to get started on a Halloween movie binge! This superhero horror is definitely a change from Marvel’s regular movies and mirrors the feel of old black-and-white monster movies. Jack Russell is from a group of creatures called Lycanthropes. We all know the story of werewolves, and this one is no different…at night Jack is compelled to turn into a werewolf. However, instead of using his powers for evil, he uses them for good. Along with him, a covert group of monster hunters are brought to the Bloodstone Temple after their leader is killed. They now have to face off in a competition to find a powerful relic to choose the new leader of the group. But that’s not all! They have to fight a dangerous beast along the way! This movie is the PERFECT horror-thriller! Along with superheroes and Marvel’s special unique character development, this film is a must-watch for all!


11. Frankenweenie


This animated movie will give you the creeps and chills you’ve been craving this spooky season! Victor Frankenstein is a total science nerd and doesn’t fit in very well at school. His closest friend is his dog, Sparky. When Sparky dies of an accident, Victor’s science teacher gives him an idea on how to bring Sparky back to life. It works and Victor is finally happy again, when, one of his peers happens to get his hands on the experiment. He uses it to bring back all sorts of dead animals…bringing terrifying disasters to the town. This movie reflects the infamous character features seen in most Tim Burton movies, so make sure you watch it this season!


12. Spooky Buddies


Puppies and Halloween! What could be better than that? As part of the Disney Buddies franchise, this film follows the story of the infamous group of brave dogs, the Buddies, as they try to defeat an evil hound. Along the way, they unite with their new friends, Pip, Zelda, Rodney, and Skip to stop Warwick the Warlock, and save the world from his cruel doings. This movie is great for children, and adults too! Although it's not very frightening, this movie is a great Halloween watch!



13. Edward Scissorhands


Yet another fabulous Tim Burton creation, starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder! This horror/fantasy love story will definitely keep you on your toes. Similar to the story of Frankenstein, in this film, a scientist builds an animated being- but passes away before he can finish- leaving Edward (the invention) with a haunting appearance and ghastly scissor blades in the place of his hands. He soon falls in love with Kim. But no matter how hard Edward tries, he’ll always be seen as a misfit. You’ll find yourself knee-deep in this wondrously mysterious romance movie!



14. Invisible Sister


Have you ever wished your sibling would just disappear? Well, in this 2015 film, Cleo has to deal with just that. This stunning sibling duo is played by Rowan Blanchard as the misfit Cleo and Paris Blanc as Molly, once again bringing back two of our favorite 2010’s Disney stars! When Cleo’s science project goes horribly wrong on a Halloween night, her older “popular” sister, Molly, turns invisible. Cleo has to now get used to being the one in the spotlight, after years of being hidden in her older sister's shadow. The two sisters have to overcome their differences and work together to bring Molly back to being before it's too late. This is a binge-worthy movie and undoubtedly a Disney channel masterpiece!


15. Hubie Halloween



54-year-old Hubie Dubois, a good-natured man in Salem, Massachusetts, finds himself at the center of a murder mystery on the night of Halloween. The town has a witch history, and Hubie, usually seen as the town idiot, is terrified of the frights of Oct. 31st. Every year, he volunteers as an Offical Halloween Helper anyways. However, this year he finds himself in the middle of some serious scary evidence. When the town begins to suspect him, it’s up to Hubie to solve the case once and for all, even if that means getting over his fear of witches and monsters. This movie is a flawless Halloween murder case film. It won many awards, including the “Nickelodeons Kids Choice Award” and the “Golden Raspberry Award”. This movie is great for teens and up and is definitely worth the watch!
