Halloween is here - and with it comes the tradition of trick-or-treating! Something that has been a part of this spooky night for children of all ages! But the real question is whether or not continuing this custom is worthwhile. Is trick-or-treating a waste of time?
Halloween dates back almost 2,000 years ago and started as a Celtic festival. It was a day of celebrating the harvest and people would dress up and carve jack-o-lanterns to scare away monsters. Nowadays, we've adopted this holiday into something more, adding haunted houses, pumpkin decorations, and trick-or-treating.
The main thing everyone looks forward to on Halloween night is…candy! Some people might argue that they're too old to trick-or-treat, but can you truly be too old to regale yourself with a sweet treat? The sense of being a child again is one of the finest aspects of this tradition! The magic of this October night includes running about the neighborhood with family and friends in search of the house with the most candy, greeting strangers and complementing their costumes, filling a bucket with your favorite delicacies, and swapping them with your siblings. And we can’t forget dressing up! How many times have you wished you were a beautiful princess or an evil vampire? Well, now you can be! You can go all out, or just stick to a simple homemade costume. Either way, trick-or-treating is an unskippable experience!
Even with all the enjoyment, trick-or-treating has a few drawbacks. First of all, the costs can be high. Families are required to purchase costumes, props, and bucketloads of candy. Second, some parents worry about their children's safety when they are out and about at night. This is quite logical, but with the right parents accompanying the kids, it can be a completely safe and wonderful experience!
Whether you believe trick-or-treating is overrated or not, we highly encourage you to go this year! We wish you all a Spooky Halloween!
